Sometimes, there are photos that create such an ambiance that they almost have their own little world within the confines of the images. For me, this is one of those photos.
This was taken outside the National Museum of Korea in 2022. I love the sharp edges of the lily pads juxtaposed with the glowing, soft scales of the koi. And the composition feels so balanced and contained with the diagonal movement created by the lily pads and the fish. The organic shapes created by the swimming koi give depth to the image as they pass through the shadows of the lily pads. The koi look as if they are made of shining metals.
