To Find

This is an ongoing series of pieces I started to begin painting again after taking a year off while completing my Master's Degree. I had decided to keep away from representational work after completing a series of figure drawings. I felt that the pressure of representation is often what keeps me from beginning a new piece. Little did I know, how important my composition, color palette, and brushwork would become when the distraction of representation was taken out of the equation. I have settled on a process of laying down a layer of freeform acrylic with lots of water to help it flow, then refining with a layer of oil on top. It's been a lovely way to jump back into both mediums, and has helped to make me more comfortable with the process again.
